As I'm getting ready to leave the only home I've ever known for college, I realize just how many things I'll miss. I'm moving thousands of miles from the west coast to the midwest, and I'm both excited and sad.
I am excited about all the new friends I'll make, but it is still sad to think of the family and friends that I'll be leaving behind. Probably the only good thing to come from COVID is the realization that I can stay in touch with those I love. Are video encounters as good as personal ones? No, but they are far better than isolation and longing.
So today, I pledge to myself that I'll take time to reach out to those I'm moving away from. I'll settle for less missing by taking the time to call and write because the effort you put into family and friendships makes life rewarding.
