I recently drove by a billboard that reminded people to keep their eyes up and phones down. I appreciated that the reminder was to drivers and pedestrians because accidents and misunderstandings occur without full participation.
It is easy to get absorbed in our phones, but doing so cuts us off from the wonders around us. When my eyes are down on my phone, I will not see the traffic, and I will not see nature either. Likewise, it is easy to get self-absorbed, but to do so cuts us off from the love and companionship that are vital to mental health.
I choose to settle for less eyes down to see the beauty of nature and humanity.
