If you're like me, you've heard it's important to stay busy. I've heard that staying busy will keep me out of trouble and help me accomplish goals. Both of these thoughts may be true, but it's important to consider how busy you are and how productive your busyness is.
Staying busy for the sake of being busy, may keep your mind off problems, but it is not productive in addressing the problem. I recently experienced a great loss, the death of a beloved pet. I stayed busy to avoid the painful feelings, but to heal I had to slow down and grieve. I had to accept the loss, rather than stay busy in the hopes I'd forget.
Personally, I have to question my business. Am I achieving results? And are those results worth the costs of busyness? To me the costs of busyness include the lack of self-care. If I'm not getting proper sleep, nutrition, and family/friend time, I'm harming not helping myself by being busy.
For today, settle for less busyness, so you can take the time to feel good and accomplish what matters to you. Doing something for the sake of something is not better than taking a minute to breathe.
