Captivity is more than physical constraints. It can also be the mental and emotional limits we place on ourselves or that others impose on us. Fear of the unknown, negative self-talk, endless comparison, perfectionism, people-pleasing, needing constant validation, unresolved trauma, or allowing guilt, gaslighting, and other people’s drama to consume our peace can all keep us captive.

Freedom starts with recognizing those constraints and acting differently. Establishing, communicating, and enforcing boundaries is one way to break free. It is okay to step away from other people’s drama, and it is healthy to challenge the negative voices in your head. Self-care and self-compassion are essential to staying healthy and happy.

And don’t be afraid to ask for help. Seeking support, learning coping skills, and prioritizing your mental health are not weaknesses — they are strengths.

You deserve freedom from the things that hold you back. So settle for less captivity, so you can enjoy peace and feel good about yourself.
