settle for less routines

Routines often get praise because they help us get enough sleep, nourish our bodies with healthy food, promote exercise, and create space for mindfulness. A healthy routine can ground us and protect us from a seemingly overwhelming world.

But there’s another side to routines that we don’t talk about enough.

When routines become too rigid, they can shift from supportive to stressful, almost an obsession with adhering to them perfectly. Instead of bringing calm, strict routines can create pressure, making daily life feel controlled rather than lived.

Healthy routines permit us to step outside the plan. Maybe that looks like: trying a new hobby you’re curious about, taking a different route on your walk, or reaching out to an old friend just because they crossed your mind.

Today, choose less routine and discover what happens.
