Balloons are fun. They evoke memories of celebrations and lift spirits as they rise in the air. The way they glide through the air when released is magnificent, yet losing one as a child is devastating. Also devastating is the cost of balloons. Balloons harm the environment and animals who eat them or become entangled.

Balloons contribute to our plastic pollution problem. Although balloons only take moments to release, they could take hundreds of years to biodegrade. Over time, these balloon pieces get smaller and smaller and eventually turn into microplastics. - HRSD

Additionally, the balloons that fly far, far away contain helium, a scarce resource.

Another reason for a ban calling to end all helium balloons is that the gas, helium, is becoming scarce. Once it is used up, there is no way to create more helium. It is a non-renewable resource. Many feel that the remaining Earth’s helium should be used for more important uses: industrial, medical, and scientific. For example, did you know that MRI scans to help detect tissue and organ damage, use helium as a cooling agent for the machine? - Education World

Settle for less balloons to retain the beauty and health of nature.
