Nicotine pouches are a type of tobacco product. The small pouches are intended to be held between the user’s lip and gum, where the nicotine is absorbed into the body. The products contain nicotine powder or nicotine salts—not cut, ground, powdered, or leaf tobacco itself—and do not require spitting. - FDA
Nicotine pouches come in flavors and have gained popularity due to social media. Whether or not the manufacturer is recruiting influencers or targeting underaged users is debatable. However, it is harder to dismiss the similarities nicotine pouch popularity has to the rise of vaping (Time). Perhaps there is not enough scientific data to define the correlation between nicotine pouch use and negative health effects, but there is enough anecdotal evidence that use and addiction are correlated (CBC; CNN). Is there a benefit in switching one addiction for another? Maybe, if the replacement addiction is less harmful to your health. Maybe not, if the replacement addiction represents a stronger addiction that requires greater amounts of nicotine to satisfy the craving. Settle for less nicotine pouches because the risks appear to outweigh the benefits.
