We live in a world of convenience. With electricity powering countless appliances, apps delivering our desires, and cars taking us anywhere, it's easy to choose the convenient option. However, convenience has a cost—our physical and mental health pays the price of choosing the convenient way.
Settling for less convenience can give us more: more mindfulness, more presence, more peace.
Walking Instead of Driving: Walking is more than just an opportunity to exercise; it's a chance to breathe in the air and take in the wonders around us.
Cooking Instead of Ordering: Cooking from scratch takes longer, but it's probably healthier and definitely grounding; it engages our five senses and anchors us in the present moment.
Unplugging Instead of Scrolling: It may seem natural to scroll through our screens, but being constantly connected can be draining. When we compare our lives to the highly stylized world of creators, social media puts us in a comparative mode that can leave us feeling less than. In contrast, writing a journal allows us to release our thoughts and imagination.
Next time you're about to press the convenience button, pause and ask:
Is there a better way for me?
Convenience is neither good nor bad. How we use convenience and how it makes us feel determines when convenience is the better choice.
Settle for less convenience to be intentional - to create safe spaces where you can enjoy the moment and feel good about yourself.
